From June 27-30, 2012 the 14th ESMO World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer took place in Barcelona, Spain. This Congress is the premier global event in the field, encompassing malignancies affecting every component of the gastrointestinal tract and aspects related to the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancer, including screening, diagnosis and the latest management options for common and uncommon tumours. It has been endorsed by leading professional societies and organizations, including ESDO.

On June 27, ESDO held a joint Expert Discussion on locally advanced pancreatic cancer together with the European Society for Medical Oncology, ESMO. It was a spirited and productive meeting of multidisciplinary experts, focussing on living causes in the field of locally advanced pancreatic cancer. You will receive an alert upon publication on the output of this exciting ESDO-ESMO Expert Meeting in due time.

On June 28, ESDO held its Business Meetings onsite at the 14th World Congress on GI Cancer. ESDO President, Eric Van Cutsem welcomed all participants to the 4th ESDO General Assembly Meeting. In particular, he was appreciative to welcome representatives of ESDO National Society Members (Romania, Serbia, Czech Republic and Belgium). ESDO Secretary General, Wolff Schmiegel reported on ESDO´s state of affairs and future activities.
