ESDO at the 14th ESMO World Congress on GI Cancer in Barcelona, June 27-30, 2012
From June 27-30 the 14th ESMO World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer took place in Barcelona, Spain. This Congress is the premier global event in the field, encompassing malignancies affecting every component of the gastrointestinal tract and aspects related to the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancer, including screening, diagnosis and the latest management options for common and uncommon tumours. It has been endorsed by leading professional societies and organizations, including ESDO.
ESDO´s activities at the 14th WCGIC were multifarious:
From June 27-30, ESDO invited everyone to stop by at our joint UEG-ESDO booth to chat, to catch up on cancer related topics or to learn more about upcoming ESDO events & activities.
Joint UEG-ESDO booth at the 14th WCGIC in Barcelona
On June 27, ESDO held a joint Expert Discussion on locally advanced pancreatic cancer together with the European Society for Medical Oncology, ESMO. It was a spirited and productive meeting of multidisciplinary experts, focussing on living causes in the field of locally advanced pancreatic cancer. You will receive an alert upon publication on the output of this exciting ESDO-ESMO Expert Meeting in due time.
On June 28, ESDO held its 4th ESDO General Assembly Meeting onsite at the 14th World Congress on GI Cancer. ESDO President, Eric Van Cutsem welcomed all participants. ESDO Secretary General, Wolff Schmiegel reported on ESDO´s state of affairs and future activities. His report and the minutes of the meeting will be available at the restricted members area on the ESDO Website shortly. 4th ESDO General Assembly Meeting at the 14th WCGIC
On June 29, the ESDO Symposium “Screening and prevention for GI cancer”, chaired by Thomas Seufferlein and Nadir Arber, attracted many interested colleagues who made a good go of the symposium.
APPLY NOW: 2nd ESDO - IDCA GI Cancer Workshop at UEG Week Amsterdam 2012 The Hopes and Hypes of Biomarkers in GI Oncology, October 20-21
As ESDO´s last year’s workshop at UEG Week Stockholm 2011 was an enormous success, ESDO has again been entrusted by the United European Gastroenterology (UEG) to develop another GI Cancer Workshop on the occasion of UEG Week Amsterdam 2012, together with the International Digestive Cancer Alliance, IDCA.
The 2nd ESDO-IDCA GI Cancer Workshop “The Hopes and Hypes of Biomarkers in GI Oncology. Screening - Diagnosis - Response Prediction” will take place from Saturday, October 20 to Sunday, October 21, 2012.
This 1 ½ day workshop will give a comprehensive overview on the most relevant techniques used to establish biomarkers as well as their pros and cons and will provide the state of the art on biomarkers in screening, early detection, evaluation of prognosis and response prediction for gastrointestinal malignancies. In addition, we will discuss the view of the pharmaceutical industry and the regulatory authorities on biomarkers in GI oncology. An application form is available online! Application deadline is Friday, August 31, 2012. Please note that places are limited, so we encourage you to apply early! The selection of attendees will be made by the ESDO Office based on predefined criteria (such as date of application, regional and gender representation, ESDO membership etc.). Priority will be given to Individual Members of ESDO and IDCA!
ESDO is pleased to announce that costs for course registration, lunch and coffee breaks will be covered by the organizing societies and that no extra registration fee will be charged. ATTENTION: Please note that the workshop will be held at the Amsterdam RAI in parallel with the 20th United European Gastroenterology Week (UEG Week). Successful applicants will only be allowed to attend the 2nd ESDO-IDCA GI Cancer Workshop. To gain access to UEG Week Amsterdam 2012, you need to register separately.
